Handmade Heat & Eat meals for quieter evenings, busy days and holidays beside Loch Awe.

A casserole warming in the oven, a spoonful of creamy mash and an apple crumble to follow: sometimes supper is simply about having something comforting to look forward to.

Here in Dalavich, the changing seasons shape how I cook. Cooler evenings call for slow cooking and warming spices; brighter days bring a welcome appetite for lighter dishes, fresh herbs and colourful vegetables.

But enjoying a good meal does not always mean having the time or energy to make it yourself. You might have spent the day working, travelling or exploring Argyll. Perhaps you would simply rather put your feet up.

That is where Meg’s Scottish Kitchen comes in. My handmade Heat & Eat meals give you the pleasure of a thoughtfully prepared supper, with much of the work already taken care of.

Seasonal cooking, ready when you are

I have always enjoyed the variety that cooking with the seasons brings. An ingredient at its best often needs very little fuss: a little butter, a handful of herbs or enough time in the pot to let its flavour develop.

My cooking draws on Scottish and Irish traditions, alongside dishes and flavours I have enjoyed throughout more than thirty years in professional kitchens. There is room for a comforting pie and a fragrant curry at the same table.

The Heat & Eat menu brings together familiar favourites and seasonal additions. Meals are prepared in small batches, then frozen, so you can keep something good ready for an evening when cooking feels like one job too many.

Whether you are feeding yourself, sharing supper with family or planning meals for a holiday, it is a practical way to make eating well a little easier.

From my kitchen to your table

I trained at Ballymaloe Cookery School and have spent my working life cooking, teaching and developing recipes, including working as a private chef. The same care goes into the food I prepare here in Argyll: building flavour, balancing seasoning and giving a dish the time it needs.

A well-made casserole begins long before it reaches your oven. Browning the meat, softening the onions and letting the sauce develop all make a difference. With Heat & Eat, that preparation is already done.

Choose your dishes from the current online menu, arrange collection or local delivery, and follow the instructions supplied with each meal. Then all that remains is to warm your supper and decide where to sit.

A kitchen shaped by the seasons

These are some of the flavours that inspire my cooking throughout the year. They are ideas for the seasonal table; check the current menu to see which dishes are available to order.

Spring brings fresh greens, herbs and rhubarb. Think pea soup finished with a little mint, tender lamb with spring vegetables, or a rhubarb crumble with a buttery topping.

Summer lends itself to new potatoes, crisp salads, berries and food to share outdoors. A potato salad with dill, vegetables ready for the barbecue and a simple fruit dessert make a lovely relaxed meal.

Autumn is the season for squash, apples, mushrooms and deeper flavours. Roasted squash with warming spices, a slow-cooked casserole or apple and blackberry crumble all suit the shorter days beautifully.

Winter calls for generous, warming food: a rich beef and Guinness pie, a bowl of soup or a comforting vegetable bake. These are the meals to enjoy after a cold walk, with your coat hung up and the kettle on.

The first evening of a holiday should feel like the beginning of a rest. After the journey, unpacking and finding your way around an unfamiliar kitchen, having supper arranged can make all the difference.

Heat & Eat meals are equally useful for evenings after a walk beside Loch Awe or a day exploring the surrounding countryside.

You can enjoy a meal in your cabin without having to begin with a shopping trip.

Local delivery is available within Dalavich, including the holiday cabins, and collection is available from Meg’s Scottish Kitchen. Check the website for current collection and delivery times, availability and any dishes that require advance notice.

Make a little occasion of it

A prepared meal can still feel personal. Add a favourite side, set out the plates and bring everyone to the table. A crisp salad, some greens or bread for the sauce might be all you need.

If you are ordering for several evenings, check the heating and storage instructions and make sure you have suitable freezer space. Choosing your meals ahead leaves more time for whatever you came to Argyll to enjoy.

For those who like to spend time in the kitchen, my seasonal recipes, cookery classes and demonstrations offer inspiration to take home. Baking mixes, spice blends and preserves bring a little of Meg’s Scottish Kitchen into your own cooking, too.

Good food is one of the small pleasures that can change the feel of a day. A meal waiting in the freezer, a warm plate and a little time to enjoy it are sometimes exactly what is needed.

Browse the current Heat & Eat menu on the Meg’s Scottish Kitchen website and choose something to look forward to. Whether you live nearby or are visiting Dalavich, you are warmly welcome.
